Thanksgiving weekend is already a great time to be in the mountains, but this year Copper Mountain is adding a little World Cup excitement to the holiday. The Stifel Copper Cup returns November 28-29, bringing some of the world’s fastest men’s alpine racers to Copper for a weekend of Super-G and Giant Slalom racing.
Copper’s connection to World Cup racing goes back decades. In 1976, the mountain stepped in to host World Cup races after Heavenly Valley was forced to cancel due to a lack of snow. Since then, Copper has continued to build its reputation as a training ground for elite athletes, earning its nickname as “The Athlete’s Mountain.” This Thanksgiving weekend, you can see that legacy in action as world-class athletes and Olympians race down Rosi’s Run.
Race weekend kicks off Saturday with the men’s Super-G at 11:45 a.m., followed by Giant Slalom runs at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. The races are free to watch, or you can upgrade your experience with VIP access, including heated indoor viewing areas, gourmet meals, an open bar, and reserved parking.
After the races, head over to Center Village, where the Festival Village will have the Giant Slalom bib draw, fireworks, and a free performance by O.A.R. on Saturday night. It’s a pretty unique way to spend Thanksgiving weekend at Copper, with World Cup racing happening right here in Summit County.
